And into the Wizards Trousers

So just before I left Auckland, I got a hold of the latest Late Night Tales collection done by Groove Armada. I loaded it into itunes and as usual randomly filled my shuffle and went off on my way. I walked down to the New World supermarket and I was taken in by a song that started off really low-fi and dreamy and went on; keeping me floating for a couple of minutes before the percussion and then the vocals kicked in. And when I heard the vocals, I thought it was Thom Yorke for the briefest of moments which made me even more interested. I repeated the song 2 more times (6:43 long!) before taking a break. When I got back with my groceries, I plugged into my laptop and found out it was the song “Roscoe” by Midlake but it was the Wizard’s Sleeve Remix. It had such odd lyrics but was so gentle flowing in a way. I totally enjoy it.

But otherwise, I had to do some research about this band and the remixers (though I had seen they had done a mix for the Chem Bros). So I did the research and I saw that the song was also on the Sonar Kollektiv/Jazzanova compilation Secret Love 4

I have the other 3 compilations each of which has held a gem of a tune. I did more research and found that The Wizard Sleeve dudes have several other remixes (and a free live set to download). I havn’t fully listed to all their stuff, but in seeing the Secret Love tracklist, I wanted to pick up the Findlay Brown song that was remixed by them as well. And I found that song available via this blog (shared below as well in case). I might not like it as much, but its interesting and maybe it will grow on me. The BBC review of Findlay Brown’s Separated by the Sea contrasts him with Nick Drake and Simon and Garfunkel, so that has me sorta interested in finding his album as well as the Midlake albums when I can.
